The Dissents are an alternative punk-rock reggae band from North Beach, SC, originally formed in the middle of 2012.
The band’s lineup consists of Steve Pethel on guitar/vocals, Jamie Lindblade on bass/vocals, and percussionist Mark Bradley Davis on drums.
Steve Pethel
Steve is a North Beach native, and was originally a solo singer-songwriter, known for having a raw sound heavily influenced by garage rock and blues.
Originally, he put his first demo on MySpace, which soon picked up popularity in his hometown. It had 3 original songs on it - Perfume, Bore, and Operator. Around this time, Steve began playing bass and doing back up vocals in a band called The Fringe. The Fringe consisted of Will Jackson on guitar/vocals, Steve on bass/vocals, and Nick Pethel, Steve’s younger brother, on drums. The Fringe worked on original music, while also covering bands such as The Beatles, The Kinks, and The Raconteurs. The band even appeared on WFXB a few times. The Fringe eventually disbanded a few months later due to musical differences.
Around this time, Steve had been attending the Fresh Brewed Coffee House in Myrtle Beach, where he met Brian Roessler, a local singer-songwriter, and photojournalist Randall Hill. Randall Hill was a reporter for The Sun News at the time, and was running a music column in which he did a story on Steve. Afterwards, Steve pursued a small solo music career.
In early 2012, The Dissents was formed with close friend Jamie Lindblade, and Mark Bradley Davis, a percussionist and teacher at the high school in North Beach which Steve and Jamie both attended.
Jamie Lindblade
Jamie Lindblade is from Frederick, Maryland. However, Jamie has lived in North Beach for the majority of his life. Jamie Lindblade is also a solo singer-songwriter, and met Steve through Steve’s younger brother, Nick. They were not the best of friends at that time, but they often ended up skateboarding and getting into a lot of trouble together, occasionally playing music as well.
About a year after The Fringe disbanded, Jamie Lindblade started working with Will Jackson and formed a local band called Lockwood Folly, a band which Jamie still plays in today.
Jamie briefly moved around, working with multiple projects, and singing in a band called Mammalfish with a few friends from high school. Jamie has sense then left Mammalfish.
In the summer of 2012, he cut an original CD which will soon be available on the web. Though, he has posted a few videos of his original tracks on Youtube.
